During a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a whopping amount of $260 million would be required for the construction of Gwadar International Airport.

It has been reported that the airport would be proficient enough to handle the largest passenger planes which will also include A380 Boeing Jet. The entire amount would come in the form of a grant from the Chinese government.

Moreover, Chinese government had also given a grant of $10 million in order to build China-Pakistan vocational and technical training institute. The idea behind this development is directed to assist the local population of Gwadar to get their skills polished that might later help them to get the employment.

With the construction of Sawad Dam, the water problem of Gwadar will also be sorted out. Gwadar Port Authority Chairman informed the committee that the water would be provided to Gwadar through an 83 KM pipeline and the shortage of water in the region would be fixed in that manner.

Amidst all these new initiatives, 3 new ships will also arrive from China in this month which will have construction material in it. Moreover, the Gwadar port is also being activated.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee, Senator Mushahid Hussain, stated that:

“Committee was guided by 3 key principles in its working, namely consensus through consultation with all political parties and provinces, transparency in projects and decision making and inclusive development, and a focus on implementation in letter and spirit of the decisions taken at All-Parties Conference held at the Prime Minister’s House on May 28, 2015”

It would be state-of-the-art airport in the country provided it gets completed on time. Furthermore, new Islamabad airport is also supposed to be built by 30th June 2017 and according to key officials, it would perhaps be Pakistan’s largest airport.
