Motivation is critical to success, absolutely critical.  If success is a road trip, then motivation is the vehicle that will get you there.

Sometimes we lose our motivation, and we just need to be reminded of our abilities, so we don’t sell ourselves short.

Jessie Belle Rittenhouse wrote this great poem about selling yourself short, she said:

And Life would pay no more,

However I begged at evening

When I counted my scanty store;

For Life is a just employer,

He gives you what you ask,

But once you have set the wages,

Why, you must bear the task.

I worked for a menial’s hire,

Only to learn, dismayed,

That any wage I had asked of Life,

Life would have gladly paid

So today I want to talk about getting more out of life, asking for more, and staying motivated to ensure that you achieve all that you desire.

5 Keys to Staying Motivated:

1. Desire

“The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential… these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.”

~Eddie Robinson

If you feel like you’ve lost motivation, if you feel like you have no desire to succeed, then it’s time to re-ignite your “desire muscles.”  So the question is, “How do you re-ignite those desire muscles?”  Well, this brings me to my next point.

2. See

“People get what they want in life when they reach the point at which they can see themselves having what they seek.”

~Thomas D. Willhite

If you’ve lost motivation, what’s really happened is that you’ve stopped seeing what you could become.  You’ve lost the vision.  Solomon wrote, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”  You have to regain your vision in order to succeed.  So how do you regain your vision, well, that brings me to my next point.

3. Believe

“Believe Big. The size of your success is determined by the size of your belief. Think little goals and expect little achievements. Think big goals and win big success. Remember this, too! Big ideas and big plans are often easier -certainly no more difficult – than small ideas and small plans.”

~David J. Schwartz

You have to take the time to reflect on the vision that you desire for your life and begin to believe once again that it’s possible for you.  I’m talking about going into a quiet room and seeing what you will be in your mind’s eye.  I’m talking about talking to yourself about your vision until you believe that it’s possible again.  I’m talking about re-igniting your desire muscles, seeing your full potential, and believing in your possibilities.

Then what, well, that brings me to my next point.

4. Go

“The road to success is lined with many tempting parking spaces.”

It’s time to go, don’t wait, don’t hesitate, begin to do what the motivated do.  Get into action; your vision has returned.  Success is your journey, there’s no time for parking.

5. Know

“Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort.”

~Franklin Roosevelt

Know that your actions of achievement will bring you joy and additional motivation.  You must see it, you must believe it, you must do it, and success will be yours.
