In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.

Surely, We sent it down during the Night of Decree.

And what shall make thee know what the Night of Decree is?

The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.

Therein descend angels and the Spirit by the command of their Lord with Divine decree concerning every matter.

It is all peace till the rising of the dawn.

(Surah Al Qadr)

The month of Ramadan is coming to a close and we are left just with the last ten nights to go. However, these are the greatest ten nights! Within its last 10 days, Ramadan has kept hidden its most sought after prize: The night of Laylat ul Qadr!

As mentioned in the Quran by Allah (SWT), the night of laylat ul Qadr is better than 1000 months (over 80 years) and is one of the most rewarding nights of all.

It should be the objective of each and every Muslim to search for this powerful night and spend it in worshipping Allah.

How do we find Laylatul Qadr?

According to traditions, most people generally are of the view that the night of Laylat ul Qadr falls on the eve of the 27th of Ramadan.

However, according to authentic ahadith of the Prophet (PBUH) the exact date of this great night was revealed to him, however, when he came out to tell people about the night he saw two people fighting and because of this knowledge was lifted and Allah caused him to forget it.

Ubaadah Ibn as- Saamit said: “The Prophet came out intending to tell us about Lailatul-Qadr, however two men were arguing and he said: ‘I come out to inform you about Lailatul-Qadr but so and so, and, so and so were arguing, so it was raised up, and perhaps that is better for you, so seek it on the (twenty) ninth and the (twenty) seventh and the (twenty) fifth.'” [Bukhari]

In another narration, it is mentioned that the night needs to be found in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan.  Ibn Abbas reported that the Prophet (PBUH) said,

“Look for the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan, on the night when nine or seven or five nights remain out of the last ten nights of Ramadan (i.e. 21, 23, 25, respectively).” [Bukhari]

As mentioned earlier, the month of Ramadan is about to end, taking with it all of its blessings and it is in our own benefit to gain as much possible from what is left of its great blessings.

We all know about the hadith where the Prophet (PBUH) said ameen to the prayer of Jibreel (AS) when Jibreel said “Woe to him who found the blessed month of Ramadan and let it pass by without gaining forgiveness”

We still have time to ask for forgiveness from Allah. We still have the opportunity to look for Laylat ul Qadr and repent for our sins.

It is only a matter of 5 nights. Not even whole days, just five nights. That is all it takes to gain the benefits of worshipping for 1000 months continuously! Not a bad deal!

May Allah give us all the strength to strive to find and make the most of Laylat ul Qadr… Ameen!
