In the presence of civil and military leadership, the official opening ceremony of Gwadar International Trade Port will take place on Sunday, 13th November 2016. The primary goal of both China and Pakistan under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project is to turn Gwadar as the hub of regional trade and commerce.
It is reported that the top leadership of Pakistan including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and General Raheel Sharif will see off the Chinese convoy which will comprise of over 44 containers to Middle East and Africa.
Several high dignitaries from Pakistan including chief minister of Balochistan and other provinces, diplomats, heads of armed forces will be invited to attend the opening ceremony.
According to the officials of Gwadar Port, the loading of 300 containers is completed. Subsequently, they will depart from the port on Sunday for a destination in the Middle East and Africa.
First Chinese trade convoy arrives in Pakistan
The first Chinese convoy has already reached Pakistan and it was welcomed warmly by FWO officials at Quetta. Pakistan greeted the cargo truck wholeheartedly which moved from Kashgar to Gwadar.
A $46 billion project, CPEC is a one belt and one road initiative. The President of China Xi Jinping proposed this initiative with an aim to enhance the connectivity, communication and cooperation between two countries.
According to the experts, CPEC will prove to be a ‘game changer’ for Pakistan. Moreover, it will bring laurels in the entire region besides creating ample amount of employment opportunities.
Moving forward
As far as future prospects are concerned, Karachi to Hyderabad M9 motorway is underway. In addition, a deep water container terminal which is also known as South Asia Pakistan Terminal will be inaugurated soon in Karachi.
Furthermore, the railway component of first CPEC trade convoy has started its journey along eastern route from Lahore.
